Off-Lease Inspections

A stringent inspection process with built in flexibility.

Our inspection process is structured for accuracy and quick turnaround, with an element of flexibility built in. For clients who do not have regular access to the Internet to review reports, AIS will fax or mail the reports as requested. In addition, inspections can be scheduled at any location, including dealerships, repair facilities, auction sites, marshalling yards, even a customer's home or business.

Our inspections are built on a 54 point process for inspecting the interior and exterior of the vehicle, and have the flexibility to customize an inspection to a customer's specifications. In either case, our inspector will note the condition of the paint, dents, scratches, rust, tires, wheels, glass, interior, oil leaks, electrical, excessive noises and missing parts. The inspector takes photos of all damaged areas. Upon completing the appraisal, the inspector electronically sends the damage report and photos to AIS, where it is reviewed for accuracy. After a quality check, AIS releases the damage report and photos on its password protected website, where clients can login with a personal ID and view their reports.

Our tight quality controls and the fact that we will customize our inspections to meet our customers' specific criteria means our work stands out above the rest. Below, see our inspection process and what is included in our services to you.

The AIS Inspection Process

The AIS inspection process is quick and accurate, designed to save our clients time and money.

The process begins with a request from the client to AIS. This provides AIS with an odometer reading, the location of the vehicle and information about what is to be inspected.

The vehicle is assigned to an inspector, based on territory. Inspectors download their assignments daily, and additional vehicles can be processed as sweeps.

Before leaving each location, the inspector transmits the inspections and photographs to the AIS web site via a handheld device. AIS clients can view photos and damage reports through our secure web site. Client and inspector logins are restricted to that individual. The daily status reports can be queried by date, VIN, account number, dealership and sweeps.

This procedure is followed by all AIS inspectors for consistency and accuracy.

The inspection begins by identifying the vehicle by matching the VIN on the assignment with the VIN on the vehicle. The vehicle engine should be running throughout the inspection to indicate any unusual noises or odors.

The interior inspection includes verifying mileage and checking:
  • Electrical components and options
  • Carpet, mats, seats and headliners for burns and unnecessary stains
Exterior inspections include the following:
  • Begin at the bottom of the front bumper, moving up the grille and to the headlights. The inspection starts at the left side of the vehicle and proceeds around, ending at the right fender. Every panel is inspected for cracks, dents, scratches and misalignments. Glass and mirrors are inspected for cracks and scratches. Trunks should have a proper spare tire, jack and accessories.
  • All tire tread depth, brand names and sizes are recorded, and tires are inspected for wear and damage, as are the wheels.
  • Under the hood, the vehicle is checked for an OEM battery and obvious collision repair.
  • Digital photos are taken, starting with an angle from the vehicle front left side. Additional photos are taken of excess damage or missing parts. Magnetic rulers are used to point out problem areas, and grease pencils used to mark cracked windshields.
  • Accessories and after-market alterations are noted.
The inspector number, the date, time and weather conditions are noted and an AIS sticker is placed behind the rearview mirror and on the key tag, indicating the vehicle is inspected and ready for pickup.

At AIS, we take pride in providing clients with quick and complete inspections. This chart highlights our successful use of wireless technology and the Internet to achieve the high standards we have set for ourselves. auto inspection auto inspection services auction inspection
